On June 24, U.S. Representative Edolphus Towns of New York hosted the inaugural Exhibition of Medical Equipment Innovations for his Congressional colleagues, their staffs and the public.

Sponsored by the Imaging & Bioengineering Research (CIBR), the Capitol Hill event was designed to educate attendees about new medical technologies. Several academic radiologists were on hand to demonstrate imaging modalities and explain their key patient benefits.

Participants from the focused ultrasound arena included GE Healthcare, InSightec, Philips, US-HIFU and the Foundation's patient support organization, Fibroid Relief.

In his opening remarks, Rep. Towns noted that advances in healthcare technology are important to the nation and its economy. Guest speaker, former U.S. Congressman Richard Gephart, acknowledged the participating vendors for helping America attain world leadership in healthcare and in medical devices and for creating jobs.

Tina Krall, executive director of Fibroid Relief, observed, "Being included in such a highly visible event was a great recognition for focused ultrasound technology. It has clearly emerged as a leading medical technology."
