Why We're Here
It can take years and years - far too long - to get a new medical technology into general use. With something as potentially life-enhancing as focused ultrasound, such a delay is unthinkable. Every day lost translates into death, disability and suffering.
So, to speed up the process, the Focused Ultrasound Surgery Foundation was founded in October, 2006, as a small, tax-exempt organization. But it has a driving, entrepreneurial spirit, and this mission: to develop new applications for focused ultrasound, and accelerate its worldwide adoption.
It won't be easy. Getting acceptance of any major new therapy is slow, complex, cumbersome. Think of everyone who's involved - doctors, scientists, engineers, manufacturers, the FDA, National Institutes of Health, philanthropies, venture capital, insurance companies…and patients. The Foundation aims to be a catalyst, getting the interested parties working together. With a little help from friends, we can jump-start the process - dramatically shortening the time from concept to adoption.
